After the Polish team lost 14-16 to Belgium on Tuesday, they could still advance to the next stage of the tournament despite an unfavorable balance.

Poland needed a low-score win by Japan against China. But the Japanese team won 21-16, sending the Poles packing from the Olympics.

Poland, Japan and China each finished the group stage with two victories.

Japan scored the most points of the three teams on average and progressed to the knockout stage.

3x3 basketball is a variation of the game played three a side on one basketball hoop. It is making its debut as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Games.
