Lewandowski’s goal on Wednesday night came in the 82nd minute and marked the 78th time the Polish star striker has scored in the Champions League across 99 matches.

The 33-year-old Pole, FIFA's world player of the year for 2020, is the competition’s third-highest all-time scorer, behind Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Several other Poland internationals, among them Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, Red Bull Salzburg centre-back Kamil Piątkowski and Dynamo Kyiv defender Tomasz Kędziora, are also hoping to make their mark in this season’s Champions League.

Thirty-two teams will take part in a total of six rounds of fixtures in the Champions League group stage, which kicked off last month and will conclude on December 8.

The Champions League final will be played on May 28 next year in St. Petersburg, Russia.
