Lewandowski’s goals in the 26th, 61st, and 84th minutes of the game in Munich on Tuesday night marked the 79th, 80th and 81st times the Polish star striker has scored in the Champions League across 100 matches.

The 33-year-old Pole, FIFA's world player of the year for 2020, is the competition’s third-highest all-time scorer, behind Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Several other Poland internationals, among them Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, are also hoping to make their mark in this season’s Champions League.

Thirty-two teams will take part in a total of six rounds of fixtures in the Champions League group stage, which kicked off in mid-September and will conclude on December 8.

The Champions League final will be played on May 28 next year in St. Petersburg, Russia.
