Swimming: Eight European medals for Poland in Kazan

Poland has won eight medals, two gold, two silver and four bronze, at the European Short-Course Swimming Championships, which ended in Kazan, Russia, on Sunday.

Poland’s Radosław Kawęcki took the gold in the men’s 200 metres backstroke on the last day of competition in Kazan, finishing well ahead of the rest of the pack.

Kawęcki touched in at 1:48.46 to win the event on Sunday, while Italy’s second-placed Lorenzo Mora finished in 1:49.73.

Michele Lamberti of Italy came in third, clocking a time of 1:50.26.

Meanwhile, Poland's Paweł Juraszek, Jakub Majerski, Alicja Tchórz and Katarzyna Wasick set a national record of 1:29.46 to win the bronze in the 4x50m freestyle mixed relay on Sunday.

Earlier in the championships, Poland’s Tchórz claimed the gold in the women’s 100m individual medley, while Wasick won the silver in the women’s 50m freestyle and followed up with another silver in the 100m butterfly.

Jakub Majerski added a bronze to the tally after finishing third in the men's 100m butterfly, while Paweł Juraszek took the bronze in the men's 50m freestyle.

The fourth bronze for Poland came from the women's 4x50 m freestyle relay team of Tchórz, Wasick, Kornelia Fiedkiewicz, Dominika Sztandera.

The 2021 European Short-Course Swimming Championships were held in Kazan from November 2 to 7.
