The 20-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 9 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), saw off the Canadian player 6-1, 6-2 in their second-round encounter on Thursday.

Up next for the Polish tennis star at the pre-Australian Open tournament in Adelaide is Belarusian former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, who defeated local favourite Priscilla Hon 6-3, 7-5.

Świątek, who last month teamed up with a new interim coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, is defending her title at the Adelaide International.

The Polish player reached the fourth round of the women’s singles at the 2021 Australian Open.

Świątek in October 2020 won the French Open, claiming her maiden Grand Slam title and becoming the first Pole to lift a Grand Slam singles trophy.
