A group of athletes and officials led by President Andrzej Duda took part in the gathering just over two weeks before the start of the Olympic Winter Games in China.

Duda told those at the event that the upcoming Beijing Games were set to be another Olympics amid the coronavirus pandemic after last year's summer Games in Tokyo.

"I am glad that despite everything we have managed to prepare our athletes for the Games and that they are very motivated," he said, voicing hope for a haul of medals for his country.

He wished Polish athletes success and promised to keep his "fingers crossed" for them.

Polish Days are typically held in Olympic host cities, but this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, such promotional events will not be organized in the Chinese capital, Poland's PAP news agency reported.

The Beijing Games are scheduled to take place from February 4 to 22.
