Sports governing bodies ban Russia from international competitions

A number of sports governing bodies, including FIFA and UEFA, have banned Russia from participating in international competitions in response to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The decisions come after the International Olympic Committee on Monday recommended that international sports federations and sports events organisers not invite or allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions.
