The 32-year-old Kszczot was planning to crown his 15-year career by taking part in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

However, as he wrote in a social media post, due to fever and overall fatigue after taking the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, he decided to pass up the event, according to sport.tvp.pl.

The two-time Olympian, who specialises in 800 metres, has thus wrapped up his professional athletic career.

Kszczot’s numerous achievements include five world championship medals (one gold, three silver and one bronze), as well as multiple successes in the European arena. He's also Poland's current national record holder for indoor 800 metres.
