The 20-year-old Pole, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, dispatched the American player 6-2, 7-5 in their women's singles semifinal on Friday.

The Polish player will now face Japan's Naomi Osaka for the title at the Miami Open, a major US tournament that is sometimes referred to as "the fifth Grand Slam."

Świątek, who is currently ranked world No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association, last week clinched becoming the new world number one in women's tennis.

She will officially take over as the new WTA world No. 1 when the tournament ends and the rankings are updated on April 4, becoming the first Polish player to hold that distinction.

In the men's singles, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has advanced to the Miami Open semifinals, with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Russia's Daniil Medvedev on Thursday.

The 2022 Miami Open began on March 21 and runs until April 3.
