The Polish world No. 1, who celebrated her 21st birthday earlier this week, extended her winning streak to 34 matches.

She played with a ribbon in the colours of the Ukrainian flag pinned to her hat against her Russian opponent, the Reuters news agency reported.

Świątek, who triumphed in Paris in 2020, will face 18-year-old American Coco Gauff in the championship match on Saturday.

The Polish player last month won the Italian Open clay-court tournament in Rome, defending her crown and claiming her eighth career singles title.

The 21-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, in early April took over as the new number one in women's tennis, becoming the first Pole to top the world rankings.
