In a blow for football fans in Poland, Lech were on Tuesday eliminated from the competition after losing 1-5 to Qarabag Agdam away in the return leg of their Champions League round one qualifier.

The first leg of the qualifier a week earlier in Poznań ended in a 1-0 win for Lech.

Lech, who in May won the Polish premier league championship for the eighth time, will now play Dinamo Batumi or Slovan Bratislava for a place in the group stage of the lower Europa Conference League instead.

Polish Cup holders Raków Częstochowa last week defeated Lech 2-0 to win the Polish football Super Cup.

Poland’s Ekstraklasa premier league kicks off its 2022/2023 season on Friday.
