The 28-year-old, who rides for the Bahrain Victorious cycling team, on Wednesday finished ahead of France's Arnaud Demare and fellow German Nikias Arndt in the annual race's 178.1 km fifth leg between the southeastern Polish cities of Łańcut and Rzeszów close to the border with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Colombia's Sergio Higuita, who won the third stage of the 2022 Tour de Pologne two days earlier, retained the race leader’s yellow jersey.
The fastest Pole, Patryk Stosz, finished 10th in Rzeszów on Wednesday.

The sixth leg of the 79th Tour de Pologne will see cyclists compete in an 11.8 km time trial at the foot of Poland's southern Tatra Mountains on Thursday.
More than 140 riders from various countries are taking part in the seven-stage 1,200 km race, which will end in the historic city of Kraków on Friday.
