Football: Poland’s Lech Poznań to face Spain’s Villarreal in UEFA Conference League

Polish football champions Lech Poznań have been drawn with strong La Liga side Villarreal in this season’s UEFA Conference League.

Polish football champions Lech Poznań have been drawn with Spain's Villarreal, Hapoel Beer-Sheva of Israel and Austria Vienna in this season’s UEFA Conference League.

The draw for the group stage of the third-tier European competition was made in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Lech will also play Israel’s Hapoel Beer-Sheva and Austria Vienna in Group C.

The Polish champions, who were knocked out of Champions League qualification at the first hurdle, are the only Polish team left in this season’s European competition, albeit in the third-tier Conference League. 

They beat teams from Georgia, Iceland and Luxembourg to reach the group stage.

The group matches of the Conference League will take place between September 9 and November 3, the PAP news agency reported.
