The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in August claimed the gold in the men’s hammer throw at the European Athletics Championships in Munich.

The Pole won the competition in Germany and defended his European title with a best throw of 82.00 metres.

In July, Nowicki won the silver at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene in the US state of Oregon, finishing behind countryman Paweł Fajdek.

European Athletics (EA) has said that "athletes from 22 countries are among the men and women who have been nominated for the Golden Tracks trophy awarded to the best European male and female athletes of the year and rising stars."

The winning athletes will be decided by counting votes from fans on social media, European Athletics member federations, media representatives, as well as an expert European Athletics panel, with the results from each group of voters counting for 25 percent of the athlete's final score, according to the European Athletics website.

Voting for all categories closes on Friday.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Tallinn, Estonia on October 22.
