The Polish goal machine, who plays for Spanish giants Barcelona, has been nominated for the annual award for the third time in a row alongside the likes of Argentina’s Lionel Messi and France’s Kylian Mbappé.

The 34-year-old, who captains Poland’s national team, has already won the accolade twice. He was named FIFA's world player of the year for 2020 and 2021.

This year, Messi, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, is widely seen as the front-runner to pick up the coveted prize, which aims to select the best player in the world.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on February 27.

Lewandowski in November collected the annual European Golden Shoe award for the highest scorer in European football last season.
