The Netherlands’ Suzanne Schulting was crowned European champion on Saturday, outracing Maliszewska in the final.

Italy's Arianna Valcepina took the bronze.

Maliszewska's silver was her fourth European championship medal in the event.

In 2019, she won a European championship title in the 500 metres in the Dutch city of Dordrecht. In 2020, she claimed the bronze in Debrecen, Hungary, and in 2021, she finished runner-up in Poland's Gdańsk.

Maliszewska in November 2018 became the first Polish short-track speed skater to win a World Cup event.

In February 2019, she became the first Pole to win an overall World Cup title in the sport.

Last year, Maliszewska was one of Poland's medal hopes at the Beijing winter Olympics. But she was ruled out of the 500m event in China due to COVID-19 and then failed to make her mark in the women's 1000 metres and 1500 metres after being eliminated in the heats.
