Former Polish boxer Grzegorz Skrzecz dies aged 65

Former Polish heavyweight boxer Grzegorz Skrzecz has died at the age of 65, news outlets reported on Wednesday.

The news of his passing was confirmed by his twin brother, Paweł Skrzecz, also a former boxer, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Grzegorz Skrzecz was a five-time national champion and won medals for the country at various international events.

In 1980, he competed in the Olympic boxing tournament at the 1980 Games in Moscow, where he reached the quarterfinals.

In 1982, he won a bronze medal at the world boxing championships in Munich, and a year later followed up with a bronze at the European championships in Varna.

He fought a total of 236 boxing matches, winning 204.

After retiring from boxing, he became a coach and television commentator.

He also made cameo appearances in Polish films, such as Sztos and Chłopaki nie płaczą (Boys Don't Cry).
