Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz through to quarterfinals in Dubai

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has made it through to the quarterfinals of the men's singles at the Dubai Tennis Championships in the United Arab Emirates.

The 26-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 11 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), defeated Russia's Pavel Kotov 7-5, 6-1, in their second-round encounter on Wednesday.

The Polish player will now take on Serbia's world No. 1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the last four.

Hurkacz last weekend won his sixth ATP singles title by beating home favourite Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Marseille Open tournament in France.

The hard-court tournament in Dubai runs until Saturday.
