Two medals for Poland at 2023 Nordic World Ski Championships in Slovenia

Poland won two medals, one gold and one bronze, at the 2023 Nordic World Ski Championships, which ended in Planica, Slovenia on Sunday.

Both medals for Poland came from ski jumping. 

Piotr Żyła won the gold in the men's individual normal hill event on February 25, beating Germany's second-placed Andreas Wellinger and third-placed Karl Geiger.

Meanwhile, Poland's Dawid Kubacki took the bronze in the men's large hill competition on March 3, finishing behind Slovenia's gold-medal winner Timi Zajc and Japan's runner-up Ryoyu Kobayashi.

On Saturday, the penultimate day of the championships, Poland’s Żyła, Kubacki, Kamil Stoch and Aleksander Zniszczoł missed the podium in the men’s ski-jumping large hill team competition, finishing fourth behind winners Slovenia, runners-up Norway and third-placed Austria.

Eighteen Polish athletes competed in the 2023 Nordic World Ski Championships, which were held in Planica from February 21 to March 5.

Team Poland included nine ski jumpers, both men and women, seven cross-country skiers, and two Nordic combined competitors.

It finished fifth in the overall medals table. Norway topped the standings, with a total of 27 medals, 12 gold, 10 silver and five bronze.
