The event was held on a significant date, coinciding with the match between the Washington Wizards, where Gortat serves as a coach, and the San Antonio Spurs, a team which currently features the only Polish player in the league, Jeremy Sochan.

Sochan's injury prevented him from participating in the game, held in Washington DC on Friday.

However, following the game, which ended with the Wizards winning 136:124, a large group of fans met with both Sochan and Gortat.

Marcin Gortat, the most popular and successful Polish basketball player, has been organising the Polish Heritage Night with his foundation every year since 2012.

The purpose of the event is to familiarize US citizens with the Polish language, culture, history, and customs.
