The Polish world No. 1 advanced to the round of sixteen after beating her opponent 6-3, 6-2.

Up next for the Polish tennis star at the clay-court tournament in the Spanish capital is either China's Qinwen Zheng, or Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 100 Magdalena Fręch crashed out of the Madrid Open after losing 6-7, 3-6 to third-seeded American Jessica Pegula in the second round of the women's singles on Friday.

On the men's side, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz defeated France's Richard Gasquet 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 on Friday to enter the third round of the tournament in Madrid.

He is to face Croatia's Borna Coric later on Sunday.

The 2023 Madrid Open runs until May 7.

Poland's Świątek missed last year's Madrid Open due to a shoulder injury.
