The 26-year-old Polish player, who is world No. 14, was eliminated by the 94th-ranked Peruvian 6-3, 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 2-6 after a nearly four-hour match at the Grand Slam event in the French capital on Friday.

Hurkacz in February won his sixth career singles title by beating home favourite Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Marseille Open tournament in France.

The Pole in August 2019 won his first ATP singles career title in the Winston-Salem tournament in the US state of North Carolina.

In January 2021, he claimed his second singles trophy at the Delray Beach Open in the United States, and followed up with victories at the Miami Open in April 2021, the Moselle Open indoor hard-court tournament in the French city of Metz in September 2021, and the Halle Open grass-court event in Germany in June last year.
