As the defending champion, Iga Świątek, made her way to Roland Garros' Round of 16, she knocked out 80th-ranked Wang Xinyu in an astonishing 6-0, 6-0 victory. Świątek crashed her opponent, racing into a 5-0 lead before securing her third bagel of the slam in a 51-minute match.
After the match, the Polish tennis player said, "I'm happy, I played a solid match.". It’s not easy to win and keep focus, so I’m happy I took care of everything. I don’t think if I played every point like a match point it’d be helpful, because match points are stressful. Every point is significant, and at the highest level, every point matters. I want to be focused no matter what situation I’m in".
"This is the first double-bagel in women's draw at Roland-Garros since Caroline Wozniacki played Francoise Abanda in 2017", Polish state news agency PAP reported.
In the fourth round, Iga will face the winner of Saturday's match between 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and former Top 25 player Lesia Tsurenko.
