Poland's Iga Świątek has stormed into the semifinals of the women's singles at the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Paris, with a straight-set win over Coco Gauff of the United States.

The Polish world No. 1, who is the defending champion in Paris, ousted the sixth-seeded American 6-4, 6-2 in their quarterfinal match in the French capital on Wednesday.

Świątek, who celebrated her 22nd birthday last week, will next face 14th-seeded Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia for a place in the championship match.
