Dis+Abled European Summer Games begin in Poland

Almost 500 athletes from 12 countries will take part in the Dis+Abled European Summer Games, held in Wągrowiec, a town in west-central Poland.

The event began on Sunday afternoon with an opening ceremony at the Market Square in the town of Wągrowiec.

During their nearly week-long stay in Poland, male and female athletes will compete in 10 summer sports – bocci, sitting volleyball, goalball (sound ball for the blind), swimming, table tennis, bowling, hand cycling (handbike), archery, dragon boat racing and sailing.

The main goal of the event, according to the organizers’ website, is to inspire people from all over Europe to get involved in summer sports and physical activity.

The Dis+Abled European Summer Games are organized by the Polish Paralympic Committee under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Environment and Climate and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

Polish Radio is one of the media patrons of the event.
