Hurkacz, who is ranked world No. 17 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), beat Marozsan 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the last eight of the men's singles in Shanghai, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The 26-year-old Polish player will now face either Ben Shelton or Sebastian Korda of the United States for a place in the championship match.

The Pole is playing for his seventh career singles title in Shanghai, while also seeking to secure a berth in the season-ending ATP Finals next month.

Hurkacz in August 2019 won his first ATP singles career title in the Winston-Salem tournament in the US state of North Carolina.

In January 2021, he claimed his second singles trophy at the Delray Beach Open in the United States, and followed up with victories at the Miami Open in April 2021, the Moselle Open indoor hard-court tournament in the French city of Metz in September 2021, and the Halle Open grass-court event in Germany in June last year.

In February 2023, Hurkacz won his sixth ATP singles title by beating home favourite Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Marseille Open tennis tournament in France.

The 2023 Shanghai Masters runs until Sunday.
