The 26-year-old Pole outclassed the seventh-ranked Russian 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in the championship match to claim his second ATP 1000 title.

Hurkacz, who is world No. 17 in the Association of Tennis Professionals’ (ATP) singles rankings, also took a major step toward securing a spot in the season-ending ATP Finals next month, broadcaster Polsat Sport reported.

The Polish player won his first ATP singles career title in the Winston-Salem tournament in the US state of North Carolina in August 2019.

In January 2021, he claimed his second singles trophy at the Delray Beach Open in the United States, and followed up with victories at the ATP 1000 Miami Open in April 2021, the Moselle Open indoor hard-court tournament in the French city of Metz in September 2021, and the Halle Open grass-court event in Germany in June last year.

In February 2023, Hurkacz won his sixth ATP singles title by beating home favourite Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Marseille Open tennis tournament in France.
