Tennis: Poland's Hurkacz advances to quarterfinals at Australian Open

Poland's Hubert Hurkacz has made it through to the last 8 at the 2024 Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The Pole, the world no. 9 in men's tennis, progressed thanks to a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over the 122-ranked Arthur Cazaux of France in Round 4 (Round of 16) on Monday. 

Hurkacz will now face Russia's 3-ranked Daniil Medvedev for a spot in the semifinals.

Making the last 8 is Hurkacz's career-best result at the Australian Open so far.

He is also guaranteed to move up to no. 8 in the world ranking, his highest-ever position. 

The 2024 Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, runs on the hard courts of Melbourne Park until January 28.
