Speed skating: Two medals for Poland in Calgary

Poland won two bronze medals at the long-track speed skating world championships, which ended in Calgary, Canada at the weekend.

Poland's Andżelika Wójcik, Iga Wojtasik and Karolina Bosiek took the bronze in the women’s team sprint, while Damian Żurek added another in the men's 500 metres.

Żurek clocked a time of 34.11 seconds in Friday's final, setting a new national record.

American Jordan Stolz grabbed the gold for the men's 500mclocking in at 33.69, a new track record.

Canada's Laurent Dubreuil finished second, with a time of 33.95.

On Sunday, the last day of the event, Poland failed to convert more chances into medals.

Poland finished 10th in the overall medal standings, alongside the Czech Republic.

The Netherlands came top of the table with a total of 13 medals, including six gold, ahead of the United States with five, including three gold, and Canada with 10 medals, two of them gold.

The 2024 World Speed Skating Championships were held in Calgary from February 15 to 18.
