Tennis: Poland’s Fręch through to 3rd round of Dubai Open

Poland’s Magdalena Fręch has made it through to the third round of the women’s singles at the Dubai Open tennis tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

The 26-year-old Pole, who is ranked world No. 53 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), defeated Croatia's Petra Martić 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in their second-round clash in Dubai on Tuesday.

Up next for the Polish qualifier at the hard-court tournament in Dubai is fourth-ranked Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.

Poland's Iga Świątek, the world No. 1 in women's tennis, was set to play her second-round match against American Sloane Stephens later on Tuesday.

Świątek had a bye in the first round of the Dubai Open.

The women's competition at the 2024 Dubai Open runs until February 24.
