Following a decision by the European Handball Federation (EHF) on Friday, the tournament will be held in Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey.

The championships will take place from December 3 to 20, 2026 and feature 24 teams.

In the preliminary round, matches will be played in Katowice, southern Poland; Oradea and Cluj-Napoca, Romania; Antalya, Turkey; Brno in the Czech Republic; and the Slovak capital Bratislava.

Poland's Katowice will be the venue for all the stages of the tournament, including the semifinals and final.

Henryk Szczepański, head of the Polish Handball Association, said: “We are very happy that one of the most important tournaments in European handball will come to our country again."

He added: "After the men's European championships in 2016, we will now have the opportunity to host the best teams in women's handball for the first time. We are particularly proud of the fact that Poland will host the main-round matches, including the EURO 2026 final in Katowice. We sincerely hope that the tournament will be a great success and contribute to the further development of women's handball in Poland and elsewhere in Europe and worldwide."

In June next year, Poland will host the 2025 Men's Junior (U21) Handball World Championship, according to the Polish Handball Association.
