Women's hockey: Poland beat Britain 3-2 in Riga

Poland defeated Great Britain 3-2 in their second match of the 2024 Ice Hockey Women's World Championships Division I Group B in Riga, Latvia, on Monday.

The goals for the Polish team came from Tetiana Onyshchenko, Olivia Tomczok and Wiktoria Dziwok.

Poland lost 1-4 to Slovenia in their opening game at the global tournament in Latvia on Sunday. Julia Zielińska scored the Poles' only goal in that clash.  

Poland, coached by Canadian Joe Butkevich, next play Italy on Wednesday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The Poles are looking to make their mark at the international event in Riga, which is also contested by Slovakia and hosts Latvia, according to the Polish Ice Hockey Federation (PZHL).

The Polish women's national ice hockey team is ranked 20th in the world by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The 2024 Ice Hockey Women's World Championships Division I Group B run until April 6.
