Handball: Poland to co-host women's worlds in 2031

Poland has been selected to co-host the 2031 World Women's Handball Championship, officials have announced.

Following a decision by the International Handball Federation (IHF) on Tuesday, the tournament will be held in Poland and the neighbouring Czech Republic.

In the preliminary round, matches will be played in Katowice and Sosnowiec, southern Poland, and Brno in the southeastern Czech Republic.

Poland's Katowice will be the venue for all the stages of the tournament, including the semifinals and final. 

Henryk Szczepański, head of the Polish Handball Association, said: “I am delighted with the International Handball Federation's decision to hold the World Women's Handball Championship in Poland and the Czech Republic in 2031.”

He added: "We are glad that ... the decisive medal matches will be played in Poland, allowing our fans to experience thrilling sporting moments firsthand ... We want to offer fans the chance to participate in numerous exciting handball events, continuously advocating for the sport at home and abroad."

Last month, Poland was announced as the co-host for the 2026 European Women's Handball Championship, together with the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey.

In June next year, Poland will host the 2025 Men's Junior (U21) Handball World Championship, according to the Polish Handball Association.
