Tennis: Poland’s Fręch through to Guadalajara Open quarterfinals

Poland’s Magdalena Fręch has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Guadalajara Open tennis tournament in Mexico.

The 26-year-old Pole, who is ranked world No. 43 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), defeated American Ashlyn Krueger 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16.

The fifth-seeded Polish player will now face Canadian wild card Marina Stakusic for a place in the last four at the hard-court tournament in Guadalajarapublic broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Fręch in July reached the final of the Prague Open clay-court tournament in the Czech Republic, where she was overpowered by countrywoman Magda Linette.

The championship match in Prague marked Fręch's maiden WTA singles final. 

The Guadalajara Open event runs until Sunday.
