The 77-year-old was admitted to a hospital in Poland due to a blood clot in his bladder and underwent a successful operation, though doctors are still monitoring his condition and considering further treatment.

"The pain was unbearable. I can’t eat or drink - I'm experiencing severe aversion to both," Tomaszewski told the tabloid Super Express, adding that doctors are still deciding on the right medication.

"The pain has eased a bit, but it’s still not good. I’ve been told I’ll be staying in the hospital a while longer," he said

Tomaszewski has dealt with health issues in the past, including high blood pressure.

His latest medical problem has drawn concern and support from Poland’s sports community, where he remains a respected and iconic figure, best known for his performance in the 1973 World Cup qualifier that famously kept England out of the tournament.
