Tennis: Poland’s Świątek moves into 2nd round of French Open

Poland's Iga Świątek has moved into the second round of the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament, with a straight-set win over Slovakia’s Rebecca Šramková.

The Polish world No. 5, who is the defending champion in Paris, ousted Šramková 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the women’s singles on Monday.

Świątek, who triumphed at Roland Garros last year and in 2023, 2022 and 2020, will next face the winner between Britain's Emma Raducanu and China's Xinyu Wang in the women’s singles competition in the French capital.

Meanwhile, Poland's Magda Linette is set to play Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the first round of the women's singles later on Monday.

The 2025 French Open kicked off on Sunday and runs until June 8.
