French Open 2025: Poland’s Fręch advances, Hurkacz exits, Świątek aims for second round

On Wednesday afternoon, Iga Świątek will face Britain’s Emma Raducanu. Earlier, Magdalena Fręch advanced to the second round of the Grand Slam tennis tournament in Paris, while Hubert Hurkacz was eliminated in the first round.

In a 40-minute match, 28-year-old Poland’s top male player Hubert Hurkacz lost to 18-year-old Brazilian João Fonseca, 2–6, 4–6, 2–6.

Another Polish player in the singles draw, Kamil Majchrzak, was eliminated on Sunday after falling to Serbia’s Hamad Medjedović, 3–6, 3–6, 6–7 (2–7).

Magdalena Fręch put in a stronger performance, advancing after a one hour and 46-minute victory over Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, 7–6 (7–4), 6–0.

In her next match, the Polish player will face Czech Markéta Vondroušová (WTA No. 96).

On Monday, Iga Świątek advanced to the second round after defeating Slovakia’s Rebecca Šramková 6–3, 6–3.

According to organizers, the defending champion from Poland will take to the court against Britain’s Emma Raducanu on Wednesday, no earlier than 4 p.m. CEST (10 a.m. ET).
