Tennis: Poland’s Świątek through to last 16 of French Open

Poland's Iga Świątek has moved into the fourth round of the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament, with a straight-set win over Jaqueline Cristian of Romania.

The Polish world No. 5, who is the defending champion in Paris, ousted the 60th-ranked Romanian 6-2, 7-5 in the third round of the women’s singles on Friday.

Świątek, who triumphed at Roland Garros in 2020, 2022, 2023 and last year, will face Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina for a place in the quarterfinals.

Świątek is the last Pole standing in the French Open singles.

"For sure it was a nice match, and she really stepped up in the second set. I had to step up as well."
