Polish sports minister announces departure ahead of Cabinet reshuffle

Polish Sports Minister Sławomir Nitras said on Monday he would step down this week as part of a Cabinet reshuffle.

Nitras made the announcement in a video message on the X social media platform.

"This week marks the end of my service in the Polish government," he said.

"To everyone I worked with and met along the way—especially the athletes—my deepest thanks and respect. It has been an honour and a great pleasure," he added.

Nitras, a centrist politician, was appointed minister for sport and tourism in December 2023, succeeding conservative Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk.

His departure comes amid a broader government reshuffle, the details of which Prime Minister Donald Tusk is expected to announce on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
