Poland’s Iga Świątek has bowed out of the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in New York, after being outplayed by home favourite Amanda Anismova in the quarterfinals of the women's singles.

The Polish world No. 2 was stunned  4-6, 3-6 by the eighth-seeded American, who was more consistent, served and returned better, and made fewer mistakes.

The Polish tennis star, meanwhile, lacked her usual power, hit fewer winners than her opponent and made more unforced errors than Anisimova, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

She was sent packing at Flushing Meadows in one hour and 36 minutes, it said.

The 24-year-old Pole, who won the US Open in 2022, was aiming for her seventh Grand Slam singles title this year in New York.

She was the last Pole remaining at the 2025 US Open, which runs until Sunday.

In July, Świątek, a former world No. 1, defeated Anisimova 6–0, 6–0 to claim her maiden Wimbledon title.
