"We received the news of Dorota Tlałka-Mogore’s passing with deep sorrow," the federation said in a statement, calling her "an outstanding skier, coach and Olympian, one of the most prominent figures in Polish and French skiing in the 1980s."

Her twin sister Małgorzata Tlałka-Długoszalso a former Olympic skier, announced the death on social media. She said Dorota died in France on Friday after a long illness.

"My beloved sister … God wanted it this way … Please pray," Małgorzata wrote.

Born on April 27, 1963, in Zakopane, southern Poland, Tlałka-Mogore came from a sporting family. Her father, Jan Tlałka, was a speed skater, and her mother, Stanisława Stopkówna, was a skier. Along with her twin, she helped bring Polish alpine skiing onto the international stage in the 1980s.

Tlałka-Mogore was a four-time Polish national champion, a multiple medalist at both Polish and French championships, and a bronze medalist at the European junior championships.

She competed in world championships, World Cup events and two Winter Olympics—Sarajevo in 1984 and Calgary in 1988, where she placed eighth in the women’s slalom for France.

She remains the only Polish woman to win an alpine skiing World Cup race, a feat she accomplished on December 14, 1984, in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.
