The world No. 2 defeated the 13th-seeded Swiss Olympic champion 7-6, 6-4 in their women’s singles match, which lasted two hours and eight minutes, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
Earlier, fellow Pole Magdalena Fręch exited the hard-court tournament after a 4-6, 6-7 loss to Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the third round.
Świątek, making her Wuhan Open debut, will next face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini for a place in the semifinals.
The 24-year-old Pole, who won her first Wimbledon title in July and claimed the Korea Open last month, is chasing her 26th career singles title.
The Wuhan Open runs through Sunday.
