Poland are set to take on Malta in their final 2026 World Cup qualifier in Ta’ Qali on Monday, having already secured a spot in the playoffs for next year's football tournament in North America.

The match kicks off at 8:45 p.m. Warsaw time.

Poland are ranked 33rd worldwide by football's global governing body FIFA, while Malta are No. 166.

The Poles, under coach Jan Urban and captained by star striker Robert Lewandowski, drew 1-1 with the Netherlands in their penultimate qualifier in Warsaw on Friday.

After seven rounds of fixtures, Poland sit second in their qualifying Group G with 14 points, three behind the Netherlands, who are all but assured of qualifying directly.

Poland still have a mathematical chance of winning the group, but it would require an overwhelming victory over Malta and a heavy Dutch loss to Lithuania in Amsterdam.

All group winners in European qualification automatically secure a place at the World Cup. The 12 group runners-up will have a second chance to advance through playoffs in March.

The playoff draw will take place in Zurich on Friday.

The tournament will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, featuring 48 teams—16 more than in Qatar in 2022.

Poland reached the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar before being eliminated by eventual runners-up France.

In 2018, the Polish team suffered an early exit from the global tournament in Russia.
