Tennis: Poland’s Linette cruises into 3rd round at Australian Open

Poland’s Magda Linette booked her place in the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday, with a straight-sets victory over American Ann Li.

The 33-year-old Polish player, ranked No. 50 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), won 6-3, 6-3 in their second-round match at Melbourne Park.

She will next face the winner of a match between 19th-ranked Czech Karolina Muchová and American Alycia Parks.

Meanwhile, Poland's Linda Klimovičová, a Grand Slam first-timer, was eliminated earlier on Wednesday after losing 5-7, 1-6 to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the second round.

On the men's side, Poland's Kamil Majchrzak lost in straight sets, 3-6, 4-6, 6-7, to Hungary’s Fábián Marozsán in the second round.

The 2026 Australian Open runs until February 1.
