European champions Spain remain at the top of the FIFA rankings, followed by world champions Argentina.
World Cup runners-up and Euro 2024 semifinalists France are at No. 3, ahead of Euro 2024 runners-up England in fourth spot.
The new rankings were released as Poland set their sights on qualifying for this year's World Cup in North America through playoffs scheduled for next month.
In early December, Poland learned their potential group-stage opponents for the 2026 World Cup should they advance from the playoffs.
Poland will host Albania in a playoff semifinal on March 26. If they win, they will face either Ukraine or Sweden in the playoff final on March 31 for a place at the World Cup.
If Poland secure a berth through the two-stage playoffs, they will face Tunisia, the Netherlands and Japan in the group stage, following a draw in Washington on December 5.
The World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It will feature a total of 48 teams, 16 more than at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Poland reached the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup before being eliminated by eventual runners-up France.
Poland’s best showing in the FIFA rankings came in 2017, when they reached No. 5. Their lowest position was 78th in 2013.
FIFA, world football’s governing body, launched the rankings in 1992.
