The 24-year-old announced the move on social media on Thursday, posting a photo with Roig and writing: “Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter.”

Reports of the partnership first emerged on Wednesday from French sports daily L’Equipe.

Roig, who turned 58 the same day, is best known for his long partnership with fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam winner, serving on his coaching team from 2005 to 2022.

Roig recently ended a brief stint with French player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and has also worked with Britain’s Emma Raducanu and Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Świątek, currently ranked No. 4 in the world, had been without a coach since March 23, when she announced the end of her partnership with Belgian Wim Fissette.

The split came shortly after her shock defeat to compatriot Magda Linette at the Miami Open.

Fissette was Świątek’s first foreign coach. She previously worked with Piotr Sierzputowski and Tomasz Wiktorowski, under whom she achieved her biggest successes, including four Grand Slam titles and the world No. 1 ranking.

During her time with Fissette, Świątek won Wimbledon last year—her first title at the grass-court Grand Slam and her sixth major overall—as well as the Cincinnati Open and the Korea Open in Seoul.

The coaching change follows a dip in form at the start of the season. For the first time in six years, Świątek has not reached a semifinal in any of her first tournaments of the year and has gone without a title in the opening three months for a second consecutive season.

Her results include three quarterfinal appearances in four events, and she has slipped from No. 2 to No. 4 in the rankings.

Her most recent setback came in Miami, where she exited in the second round—her earliest loss at a tournament since August 2021.

Świątek is expected to train with Roig at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Majorca as she builds toward the clay season. Her first scheduled event is the Stuttgart Open, which begins in Germany on April 13, followed by the Madrid Open opening on April 20.

Świątek won the Madrid title in 2024. Last season, she reached the semifinals before losing to American Coco Gauff.
