Świątek, a four-time French Open champion, defeated the Czech Republic's Sára Bejlek 6-2, 6-3, while Linette beat Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in the women's singles second round.

World No. 3 Świątek is seeking her seventh Grand Slam title and her fifth at Roland Garros.

Linette, ranked No. 73, matched her best French Open result by reaching the third round for the third time, having also done so in 2017 and 2021.

By defeating Ostapenko, Linette also prevented a potential third-round meeting between the Latvian and Świątek, who has lost all six of their previous encounters.

The 34-year-old Linette will face Świątek for the third time, with their head-to-head record tied at 1-1. Linette upset Świątek in the second round of the Miami Open in March after losing heavily to her compatriot in Beijing in 2023.

Świątek, 24, won the French Open in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Two other Polish players, Magdalena Fręch and Maja Chwalińska, are also still in contention in the women's singles competition in Paris.

The 2026 French Open began on Sunday and runs until June 7.
