The former world No. 1 secured victory in 85 minutes in the first all-Polish singles match in French Open history, Poland's PAP news agency reported.

“It was a good match. I played much better than I did in Miami,” Świątek said afterward.

“I was able to make good use of my topspin forehand and my second serve. I’m happy with this performance,” she added.

The match was the eighth all-Polish singles contest at a Grand Slam tournament, but the first at Roland Garros.

Previous Polish matchups took place at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Świątek, a four-time champion in Paris, will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk for a place in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

The 15th-seeded Kostyuk advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic. The Ukrainian is coached by former Polish player Sandra Zaniewska.

Kostyuk has enjoyed a strong clay-court season, winning titles in Rouen and Madrid.

“She’s definitely having a great season,” Świątek said. “She has always had the potential for good results. I’ll focus mainly on my own game and prepare as I do for every other match.”

Kostyuk has lost all three of her previous meetings with Świątek without taking a set.

World No. 3 Świątek is seeking her seventh Grand Slam title and her fifth French Open crown.

Linette had beaten Świątek in the second round of the Miami Open in March after suffering a one-sided defeat to her fellow Pole in Beijing in 2023.

Świątek, 24, won the French Open in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Another Polish player, Maja Chwalińska, also remains in contention in the women’s singles draw after reaching the third round for the first time.

The French Open runs through June 7.
