Tennis: Poland’s Świątek through to last 16 in Cincinnati

Poland's Iga Świątek has reached the last 16 of the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament in the US state of Ohio.

The Polish world No. 5 defeated Greece's Maria Sakkari 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the third round of the women’s singles on Monday.

Świątek, who had a bye in the first round, will next face France's Diane Parry for a place in the quarterfinals.

The Cincinnati Open hard-court tournament is the final warm-up for many top players ahead of the US Open Grand Slam event.

Earlier this month, Świątek won the Canadian Open in Toronto, claiming her 26th career title.
