The 29-year-old Pole beat Bosnia and Herzegovina's Damir Džumhur 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the men's singles at Flushing Meadows.
Hurkacz, ranked No. 47 in the world, will next face American Ben Shelton or Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor for a place in the third round.
On Sunday, Poland's Kamil Majchrzak reached the second round of the US Open by beating Serbia's Hamad Medjedović 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
On the women's side, Poland’s world No. 8 Iga Świątek, 41st-ranked Magdalena Fręch and 82nd-ranked Magda Linette are also seeking to advance to the second round of the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
Meanwhile, Poland's world No. 22 Maja Chwalińska crashed out of the tournament on Monday after losing 2-6, 3-6 to American Taylor Townsend in the first round.
The 2026 US Open began on Sunday and runs until September 13.
